China’s drug underworld

The other side of prosperity

The “farm to pipe” time bomb

In 1990, China had 70,000 registered drug addicts. Now it has two million. Registered drug addicts probably represent a tiny fraction of the real number.

China is developing into a massive drug market. More Chinese have cash and free time – and are living in a fractured society.

Heroin is everywhere, but so are amphetamines. China’s become a major international supplier of precursor chemicals for the making “ice.”

Drugs don’t create “social chaos,” but they do throw fuel on the fire.

Myanmar is now free and cash hungry and that means virtually limitless drug production capacity.

On the other side China offers a vast market.

Let the games begin…

(I bet the Bush family wishes they could get in on this one. Maybe they are.)
