I don’t know if we’ll live long enough to see Dubai’s eventual collapse play out fully, but this I know for a fact now:
Dubai is one of the greatest examples of fraud (the people who sold it) and idiocy (the people who bought it) in all of human history.

In case you’re wondering, Dubai’s absurdly dysfunctional and highly expensive “World” and “Palm” island complexes were the brainchild of – wait for it – United Arab Emirate’s supreme ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The two Dutch companies that came together in a joint venture to help Al Maktoum create this were Van Oord and Boskalis.
The recycling of dollars – from consumers to idiot Arab despots to clever western consultants and engineering companies.
