Forbidden to repair
Illegal to open and repair your own digital piece of electronics?
Who really owns your cellphone?
You may have thought when you purchased that piece of digital electronics, you had total rights to it. Surprise!
By addling digital locks, denying access to manuals and schematics, as well as fair market access to diagnostic tools, the digital industry claims universal property rights you thought were yours.
Last year an organization called The Digital Right to Repair Coalition was created to push legislation in Congress to allow cell phone unlocking. “Fair Repair” bills haven been passed in New York and Minnesota: and in Massachusetts, a “Digital Right to Repair” bill.
